Baby Monitors:
If you will be having a baby, already have a baby, have toddlers or even older children, baby monitors are a near must-have. These little gadgets provide so much safety and comfort for parents and children alike. For very little money (on the lower end of the scale—the prices do, however, rise as you start buying newer technology), a parent can be provided with the peace of mind of being able to hear their little one without having to actually be within earshot of them.
This can come in handy a variety of times. Think of the times such as when your little one is in his bed asleep and you need to be able to he if they wakes up but it would also be great for you to be able to get some gardening done during this nap. The simple solution is to strap a battery operated baby monitor to your hip and listen to your little one from out in the yard. Most baby monitors work so well that you will actually hear your child much more quickly and clearly than you would if you were in the house but in another room. They usually pick up the faintest of sounds and you can even hear the smallest movements, such as your child turning over in bed.
Baby monitors can also come in handy when your child is older. This is especially true if you live in a big house. Some kids, while they are fine sleeping by themselves, if they wake up in the middle of the night, they are slightly scared to walk around in the dark. So, if they have a bad dream, need to use the restroom, etc., they may need you. If your child’s bedroom is on the other side of the house from yours, you may not hear them until they have had to yell for a few minutes. If you have a baby monitor, you can hear them immediately, no yelling necessary.
Another way that baby monitors come in handy is to be able to observe your child as they play in another room. This way, your child feels that she is getting privacy and the chance to make her own decisions without you looking over her shoulder, but you can still hear or see when she may do something that is potentially dangerous.
While even the cheapest, most basic baby monitors provide a great benefit, and usually work great, there are some new types of baby monitors that are making watching your baby or child from another room almost better than being there. Below is some information about new forms of baby monitors and what they have to offer:

Video monitors—there is one irritation that comes with regular audio baby monitors, and that is when you hear your child whimper and you race to their bedside, only to find that they were simply whimpering for no reason. By the time you get there, they are sound asleep and do not even know they caused a ruckus. With a video surveillance baby monitor, parents can avoid these situations. If they hear their child make noises, they can simply look at the monitor to see what their child is doing and then go physically check on them if need be. Video monitors have recently gotten smaller and easier to use too, making them even more portable. This way, you can watch your child play in another room, and if you choose to buy a wireless version, you can even take it with you to keep an eye on your child while you are visiting friends or family.

More updated audio monitors—there have also been many new updates on the old tried and true audio monitors as well. Now, these monitors can relate better, less fuzzy sound, so the parent clearly understands what they are hearing and are able to detect even the slightest noise, such as breathing.
