Baby Tummy Aches:

Babies often have tummy aches, and most often these are caused by air getting into their stomach. This air has a hard time finding its way out, so the baby will be in pain until it moves around or exits the body.

There are a few ways to try to avoid this every happening to your baby, and when these methods fail to work, there are a few tricks that can help your baby feel better more quickly.

Tips to try to avoid your baby getting a stomach ache:

• Always burp them after a bottle.
• Use bottles with bags in them so that you can push the air out before feeding.
• Stop feeding frequently to let the extra air out of the bottle.
• Never prop your baby's bottle up.
• Hold the baby in a semi-upright position when feeding.

Tips to help your baby feel better:

• Rub their tummy in a counter-clockwise motion.
• Give them medicine for it. The absolute best medicine for this is Mylicon drops. These work wonders for baby tummy pain.
• Distract them from the pain. This will not always work, but it might for a few minutes. You can take them outside, take them for a ride in the car, or anything that might distract them long enough to relax their muscles, which will help the pain ease some.
• Bounce them up and down. If your baby will work with you, stand them up or sit them up on your lap and bounce them softly up and down. This can help get things moving around.
• Pump their legs up to their chest and then straighten back out. This works on the same principle as bouncing them. Lay the baby on his back, and hold his feet. Slowly push his legs up to bend his knees to his chest. Then straighten them back out. You should do this repeatedly until he gets irritated with it.
• Tickle the baby. Tickling the baby, not to make them laugh, but to make them uncomfortable, can sometimes work. By doing this, the baby will often wiggle around, which can help.
• Continue patting their back, trying to burp them. This may seem simple, but with a screaming baby it's easy to overlook the simple things.

Any of these have as good a chance of working as the rest, it's just a matter of trying them all until your baby feels better.
