Family Friendly Stores

It may seem like shopping and going out to eat with kids is a near impossible task. They are into everything, they are loud, and it can make a simple outing very frustrating for parents. The key to making things a little easier on everyone involved is to find family-friendly restaurants and stores. They may be hard to find, but they are out there, and they are nearly a necessity for parents.

• Grocery Stores—
Grocery stores seem to be moving faster than any other stores when it comes to offering parents what they need to keep their children occupied and behaving decently while shopping. The following list of chain grocery stores offer kid-friendly amenities that can make shopping much less stressful:

Price Chopper-
If you have one of these in your area, they are wonderful for children. They offer adult carts that have a built in car or truck on the front that can hold two children inside. They have steering wheels (that don’t actually steer the cart) and seat belts for safety. Many kids love shopping at this store because of this feature.

Another feature that Price Chopper offers consists of miniature carts. These are the size of toy carts, but they are metal just like adult carts and have a flag at the top stating “customer in training.” Kids love these, as well, and they can make shopping much more fun and interesting for your child.

Hen House-
If you have a Hen House in your area, it may be worth making a trip because many stores in this chain offer a daycare that shoppers can leave their children at while shopping. The kids have fun playing and the parents get to shop without being asked for something every 20 seconds.

• Other stores—
Many stores, such as Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart have carts that have seats for children on the back of them. Instead of the normal seat (that really only works well until the child is out of toddlerhood), it can have a total of three seats, and can fit children that are much older. These seats have buckles for safety, and not only do they keep children from running around grabbing things (which can frustrate the parent), it also keeps the child from getting tired from walking around (which can result in more shopping time).

• Restaurants—
There are many restaurants that offer child-friendly menus and seats, etc. These are almost always on the lower end of top-rated restaurants, but there are many that are decent priced, have good food, and are child-friendly. Two good ones are as follows:

This restaurant has an excellent child-friendly menu, complete with a drink that changes colors when a powder is poured into it. Their chicken tenders are in dinosaur shapes, and they offer healthy and fun choices, such as grapes and salads with goldfish crackers on top.

This restaurant also offers an excellent children’s menu, including a choice of their own miniature pizza. They also give the children crayons and pages to color to keep them busy. The cups that serve the child’s drink come with a lid and a straw (without the parent even having to ask) and the child can take it home with them when they leave.
