Natural Relief for Illness:

All kids get sick at some point or another, and sometimes it is good to know of a few ways to deal with mild illnesses without medicines. There can be many different reasons you might want to do things the natural way, whether it is because you just prefer to use as little medication as possible, your child has a hard time taking medicines, you are temporarily out of medication, and many others. You can use the following tips to help relieve common illnesses at home, and these work best in conjunction with medicines, or simply until the medicine kicks in.

• Nausea

There are many different ways to help ease nausea at home, including having them eat crackers and drink 7up, having them lie down and be still, and more. If your child has slight nausea, but they are still eating, you should make sure they don’t lie down horizontal immediately after eating. It can make it worse. It is best to have them lay back, but be propped up at a degree similar to if they were laying in a recliner.

• Headache

There are a few helpful ways to ease headache pain at home, including having them lie down, turning the lights off, and eliminating all noise. If you want, you can turn a radio on low with soft classical music. Sometimes this can help your child relax enough that the pain will subside. Another good thing to do for headache pain is to have your child take a really warm shower. Many times, the water will help relieve tension that may be contributing to the pain.

• Fever

There are also a few ways to ease fever without medication, and these also work well in conjunction with a fever reducer. Give your child a tepid bath. Unlike in the past, when it was recommended that the water be ice cold, it is now suggested that you have your child sit in a bath that is room temperature. They will need to stay in the tub of water for at least twenty minutes, though, and you should be prepared for your child to be upset. When a person has fever, they feel extremely cold, so even lukewarm water might seem freezing to them during this time. This is also a good thing to do if you have given your child a fever reducing medication, because it takes medicine about 30 minutes before it will take its full effect. Doing this can help reduce the fever much faster, and the medication can help keep your child's temperature down.

Any time your child has an illness, it is a good idea to try to relieve them as much as possible, and you will want to try to find out what the root of the problem is, as well. This is because many common illnesses can be signs of a larger problem. Making the child feel better is important, but so is finding out, and treating, whatever caused it in the first place.
