School Room Mom

For parents who don't work outside the home, or have flexible hours with their job, it might be worth considering being a school room parent.
This can be something that both moms and dads can do for their children, and it requires being more a part of the child's school life.

There are many things involved in being a room parent for your child's classroom, including helping to organize parties and school events. It does mean more time out of a parent's schedule, but often it is worth it, since you get to interact more with the teacher and play a bigger role in their school career.
Most kids, especially the younger ones, love for their parents to come to school for any occasion, be it breakfast or a party. When being a school room parent, you are given more opportunities to do these types of things for your child.

Another part of being a school room parent will include attending field trips with the class.

This is something that kids also love to share with their parents.

One of the best benefits of being a school room parent is if you have several children, your child may not get to have your attention focused solely on them as often.

If this is the case, your child may really look forward to the days that you come to their classroom to assist, because they get to have your attention without their siblings being involved.

If your child's school has a Halloween carnival, you may be responsible for part of this, as well. This could include such things as running a game booth or face-painting booth, etc.

There are many other things a school room mom may be expected to do, it will just depend on what each teacher and school prefers. Sometimes, the school room parent will be the one responsible for organizing the other volunteer parents during events or field trips, etc.

One very important thing to remember, though, is that if you have more than one child, and you decide to become a school room parent so that you can focus your attention solely on one child at a time, you should do this for all of your children. While this may make things even more hectic than before, you cannot devote that much time and energy to one child without doing so to all.

If this is an impossible task due to time constraints, etc., you can sign up with the teacher to be a volunteer parent on occasion, so that you can spread your time evenly for all children.

It is better for each child to have their parent for a little while than for one to have them all the time.
