Spitting Up:

Some babies tend to spit up after every single feeding, and some babies never spit up at all. There are many things that can cause a baby to spit up, including not being burped properly after a feeding, the baby eating formula that is a little older than it should be, a baby reacting to a certain type of formula, and more. While, if your baby spits up constantly, you may not be able to find a cause (which means you would also not be able to find a solution), there still may be a few things you can do.
Below are a few tips to try to eliminate your baby's spit-up after meals:

• Make sure it's not the formula—different babies react differently to formulas. Just because a certain one is the kind that your doctor recommended or your friend used on their baby doesn't mean that this kind will work for your child. If your baby spits up on a regular basis (every day) you may want to talk to your pediatrician about switching your baby's formula. It may not help, but it likely won't make it any worse either.

• Make sure to burp your baby—you will want to do this after every ounce or so for the first few months, and then after every bottle when they are older. Being sure to get all the air out of their tummy will help spit-ups occur less often.

• Feed your baby properly—be sure to sit your baby upright when feeding, and never prop a bottle up. If you have switched formulas and always burp your baby and they still spit up after every feeding, you might want to consider trying to switch to a different kind of bottle. This may not work, or your baby may not even be willing to take a different kind of bottle, but it is always worth a shot. There are many different types of bottles that are intended to reduce how much air your baby gets, including the bottles with bags in them, the bottles with airholes on the base, and more.

If these don't work, and your baby still spits up all the time, there are a few things you can do to at least make this a little easier to deal with:

• Always put a bib on your baby—when you feed your baby (even when they are just eating from a bottle) you should put a bib on them, and you should leave it on for burping too. If your baby spits up several times a day, you may want to consider leaving the bib on your child at all times. This may be a pain sometimes, but at least you will be saving their clothes.

• Always keep a small towel handy—this isn't to save their clothes (you have that covered with the bib). Instead, this is to save the parent's clothes when the spit-ups happen.

• Start feeding more solid foods earlier—if your baby spits up after every feeding, when it is time to start feeding them solid foods, you may want to feed them more often than you normally would. Although the majority of doctors will say that when they first begin eating solid foods, they should still be getting most of their nutrients from formula, how many nutrients can they be keeping in their system if they spit most of their formula back up?

• Take your baby for regular doctor check-ups—this is obviously something you should do anyway, but it is even more important if your baby is a spitter. There is really no way to be sure (other than your doctor saying so) that your baby is not spitting back up all the important nutrition that they are drinking.
